Knox students can apply for an individual Richter Memorial Fund grant to support research or creative work during the academic year, winter break, or summer. Any student in any discipline is eligible to apply for funds from the Richter grant program. Make sure to review the Richter Policies & FAQs before applying.
Apply for a Richter grant to support a project you’re participating in via a Knox course, independent study, honors or capstone project. Funds can be awarded for materials (such as books, chemicals, etc), participant expenses (for surveys), or equipment (on a limited basis).

Funds are decided and awarded by the Richter Advisory Board.
Winter Break
Summer
Students apply to a specific funding level, each of which has specific requirements and eligibility criteria. Funding is limited, especially at the upper funding levels. Open the application to learn more about how to apply at each level.

Students who are presenting at a regional or national conference may apply for Richter funding to support their travel, registration, and lodging expenses. Funding to attend a conference is not available. Application for conference support must be submitted at least 30 days in advance of the conference.

Your Richter application must be submitted by midnight at the following dates. No late applications will be considered. Note that it can take up to 8 business days to receive a response about your grant application.
- September 26 - fall term academic year projects
- October 17 - fall term academic year projects
- October 31 - for winter break projects or winter term 2026 projects only
- January 16 - winter term academic year projects
- February 6 - winter term academic projects
- March 27 - spring term projects & Knox Summer Scholars applications
- April 17 - spring term academic year projects
- May 1 - summer projects only. Note that applicants may not be notified until around May 20.
